Are you really giving your dog away to a “Good” home or is it a Death sentence?
So you think you need to give your dog away for whatever reason. You think that by placing an ad in the local paper that you will attract a kind, loving person to take your dog.
What do you know about the person that answers your ad? Don’t be fooled by a nice appearance or a nice story that they tell you.
Of course, your interest is in your pet and you think by giving it away, that you are doing it a favor.
What you may actually be doing, is giving it to someone that will sell it to a lab for research, breeding or worse yet, slaughter in the dog meat trade!
Are you horrified yet?
These types of ads are common place today. If you are giving away a child’s bike or swing set that has been outgrown, then that’s one thing.
But, if you are trying to give away a living creature, be it cat, dog, puppy, kitten, or horse then that’s another story.
Don’t sentence your pet to a Death Sentence.
Rather than run an ad in a local paper, why not call local veterinarians and ask them about help with placing your pet.
They usually have bulletin boards that you could post a picture on.
Animal shelters will take your pet in or try to help you find a new home.
They may even know of someone that could foster your pet until they can re-home it.
If you physically can’t take your pet to the shelter yourself, the shelter may be able to send someone to your home to pick it up.
Don’t be afraid to go to an animal shelter to seek help with your pet. They are there to help the animals, not judge you as to why you are giving up your pet.
Please be kind and considerate of the animals. Your pets all have feelings and just because you don’t want them anymore or can’t keep them, doesn’t mean that they don’t deserve respect.
Remember how much fun it was when you first got them?
Many times a groomer can help you find a new home for your furry companion.
You can provide them with all the details about your pet: like name, age, likes, dislikes, whether or not it gets along with children, whether or not it gets along with other dogs or cats. Is it food aggressive?
You want to have all the health records or be able to get them.
This information will help a shelter place your pet in the forever home it deserves.
Dogs and cats can be such wonderful companions to us, very devoted and loyal. The very least we can do is to try and find them a good home.
That may require a little more effort on our part then just placing a free ad in a local paper.
Remember, that animals suffer from emotional trauma, too, and uprooting them from their home that they’ve had for awhile can be very disturbing to them.
They have no way of understanding why you don’t want them anymore.
They all deserve a Good Home, but sadly that isn’t always the case.
A Blessing For The Animals
Prayer: “Dear Father,
Hear and Bless,
Your beasts and singing birds,
And guard with tenderness,
Small things that have no words.”
