In the first place. people should realize that Hallmark dogs are highly trained and acting like every one else in those movies. The dogs even have brilliant white teeth just like the actors! All dogs have different personalities. Your dog doesn't have to enjoy being touched by everyone. No one should want their dog to be overly friendly with strangers as the dog could be stolen or the dog may not bark to protect you or your home if need be. Some people have unrealistic expectations of dogs and then if the poor dog is only trying to be himself, he ends up in a shelter. Kind of like expecting too much from your new mate, being disappointed and then getting a divorce! Reality and patience is the key to happiness.

I don't like anyone petting my dogs or reaching for them. That gesture invades their personal doggy space and they may not like the way the person smells. Fortunately, dogs smell things we don't! I always take the side of my dogs. They are never put into a position of being challenged by other dogs. I am with them at all times when they are outside. Dogs are like people in that they don't like every dog they meet, just as we don't like every one we meet. We just don't try to bite them!
