Make Your New Year’s Resolutions One Word
Be realistic for your future

Another year gone by. And what a year it has been!
Happiness is truly 2020 in the rear view mirror!
Regardless of what lies ahead in the New Year, we need to take a look at ourselves and see what we can do better.
Most of us make ridiculous New Year’s Resolutions that we have no way of keeping for a few weeks or days, much less a whole year.
So let’s do something different this year and make our resolutions just one word or two. Something achievable.
Patience
Try to exercise patience if you are in traffic and you don’t like what other drivers are doing.
I always assume that if someone speeds around me that they must be in a hurry for something very important to them. We all have pressing problems in our life that cause us to act a certain way, so who knows what’s behind erratic driving?
Patience should be practiced daily anyway when dealing with your family or friends. Remember in the future, these aggravations will likely fade away and loose their importance. Don’t waste time on petty grievances.
Being angry or mad at different ones, drains you. Those feelings control your thinking and actions. This is not new, you’ve heard it all before. But, it’s time to really listen. Pay attention to how you react to certain situations. Don’t let yourself become out of control.
Only you can control YOU!
Practical
Be practical in the things you want or need in your life.
Practicality helps to keep us on track and sane. Don’t put unrealistic monetary demands on yourself. If you do, you’ll find yourself working all the time to buy things, but not having enough time in your days to enjoy them.
Resolutions are just goals. And like goals, they must be realistic and reachable. If you fail at your goals, don’t beat yourself up. Just realize that you must be more realistic. Nobody knows you like you know yourself.
So don’t listen to family or friends telling you what you should do to be happy and fulfilled.
We have to try to keep living despite the world conditions. We have to do what is best for us and our families.
Think
We must think for ourselves to determine what is best in our life. Just because we turn the calendar page, doesn’t mean we will ever be back to normal.
Exactly what is normal?
Why do we follow “leaders” who spew their opinions and expect us to follow without question?
Have we all given up thinking for ourselves? One size does not fit all.
Protect
Protect is a very important word. You need to protect your health, your family and anything else that is important to you. Think about it.
What is important to you?
Make a list of what is important. You must protect your heart. Without it you have no life.
Breathe
Make yourself take deep breaths. Go outside and deep breathe. If you live near a park or wooded area, the air may be purer than city air. That’s important, don’t want fumes in your lungs. Deep breathing helps to clear your head.
Realistic
We have to all be realistic.
I hate facing reality, but it is what it is.
Our lives are all changing whether we like it or not.
We have all been shaken to our cores as our lives have been interrupted by world events or personal tragedy. So in come the changes.
But we cannot continue on doing things in the same way and expect different results. The definition of insanity!
We must make these changes work for the better.
Start with reasonable resolutions and see how your life changes. One tiny step at a time, not giant leaps. If you do giant leaps, you may step over some very important things.
Smile
Try to smile more. Even if you are wearing a mask and others can’t see your smile, your heart knows you are smiling.
And keeping a smile on your face helps to keep your heart happy!
